Methodology

How every score is actually calculated.

No black box. Every number a coach or administrator sees in Athletic Advantage is built from a formula on this page.

Every score below is a wellness and workload-planning signal, not a medical assessment. None of them diagnose, treat or predict injury, and none replace professional medical advice.

Daily

Wellness Score

Built from the athlete's daily check-in — four short steps covering sleep and recovery, energy and hydration, a tap-based body soreness map, and general wellbeing (mood, stress, anything off). The answers combine into a single score from 0–100.

Range

0 – 100

When it's blank

No check-in submitted today — the Wellness Score stays blank rather than showing a fabricated zero or carrying over yesterday's number.

Daily

Training Drain

The total training load an athlete has logged today, across every session.

Per session

duration (min) × RPE (1–10) ÷ 20

Today's Training Drain

sum of every logged session's load, today

RPE is the athlete's own rating of perceived exertion for that session, from 1 (very easy) to 10 (maximal effort).

Daily

Recovery Boost

Points earned today from logged recovery activities — a small, capped credit toward the Recovery Score, not a separate score of its own.

Daily

Recovery Score

The headline daily number. Today's Wellness Score, adjusted down for training completed today and up for recovery work logged today, clamped to a 0–100 range.

Wellness Score − Training Drain + Recovery Boost

clamped to 0–100

If the Wellness Score is blank because no check-in was submitted, the Recovery Score is blank too — never estimated, never carried over from a previous day.

Rolling

ACWR — Acute:Chronic Workload Ratio

Compares an athlete's recent training load with their own longer-term baseline — a workload-planning guide, not an injury prediction.

Acute load

Sum of session load over the trailing 7 days

Chronic load

Average weekly session load over the trailing 28 days

Ratio

Acute load ÷ Chronic weekly load

Below 0.8

Lighter recent workload relative to baseline

0.8 – 1.5

Balanced range

Above 1.5

Flagged for coach review

A ratio only appears once there's enough logged history to make it meaningful — with sparse data, the athlete shows a "Building baseline" state instead of a number that would overstate its own confidence.
